A work of Love

Today we worked on a project to clean up and develop one of the school yards for the children.
We cleaned up a hedge row, and prepared the site for a flower bed.  We began to build a stone wall on the perimeter.  We cleaned up the garbage and moved several large piles of rocks.  This enlarged the play area for the children.
As we were working the children came out for recess.  They each had two tortillas with a beet and mango sauce on it and a glass of corn water to drink.  They watched us wide eyed as they sat and ate.  Much to our surprise some of the older children practised speaking English with us and laughed at our attempts to speak Spanish back to them.
A group of younger children wanted to help us and were very enthusiastic helpers.
I was touched most when we were leaving, a young boy came over to me and clearly stated that we had worked very hard and he thanked me for doing that for them.  His sincere gratitude brought tears to my eyes.  Who would think that moving rocks could bring so much joy!
